Hinen, a Chinese residential energy storage brand, launched its A15 system into the UK market on 21 August 2026, roughly a week after unveiling it at an online event on 12 August. The product pairs an A-series hybrid inverter with a new B15 high-voltage battery module: 14.4 kWh per module (13.68 kWh usable), stackable to 86.4 kWh across six modules, a 180 mm slim depth for tight installs, more than 8,000 charge cycles, and a 12-year warranty. The distribution route is installer-only, with a "First 300 Installer" incentive, and Hinen has not published a UK RRP. On specs alone the A15 is a competitive UK offer. It is not a price reset, and it does not change the underlying maths that waiting past 31 March 2027 loses the 0% VAT relief on installed home batteries.

What Hinen actually launched on 21 August 2026

Hinen is a residential storage brand headquartered in Shenzhen that has been shipping in continental Europe and Australia for a couple of years, and has now formalised its UK entry. The company held an online unveiling on 12 August 2026 for the A15 Residential Energy Storage System, then confirmed the official UK launch on 21 August 2026 with a press release focused on the installer ecosystem it is building out.

The A15 is not one device but a bundle: an A-series hybrid inverter (which handles AC/DC conversion and the smart tariff logic) paired with the new B15 high-voltage battery module. One module is 14.4 kWh nameplate (13.68 kWh usable at 95% depth of discharge), and up to six modules can stack on the same inverter for a maximum 86.4 kWh nameplate / 82.08 kWh usable. That upper end is far beyond what a typical UK household needs, but it opens the door to larger installs (small businesses, homes with a heat pump plus two EVs, or off-grid configurations).

Slim form factor. The A15 is 180 mm deep, which is markedly thinner than most wall-mounted UK batteries (Tesla Powerwall 3 is around 190 mm, GivEnergy Gen 3 modules sit closer to 220 to 240 mm depending on stack). For a Victorian house with a shallow understairs cupboard, or a garage where a car needs to fit past the wall, that difference matters.
Cell chemistry and cold weather. Hinen has confirmed operation to -20 degrees Celsius via built-in battery heating, an IP65-rated enclosure, and a five-layer protection system on the module. The A15 is a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) system, which is now the default UK chemistry after Tesla's Powerwall 3 move and the sodium-ion delay we covered in our sodium-ion buyer's guide.
No external BMS. The B15 has its battery management system integrated into the module rather than requiring a separate BMS box, which cuts installer wiring time and one whole point of failure out of the system.

Software-wise, the A15 comes with the Hinen App for monitoring, tariff scheduling and over-the-air firmware updates. Unlike the Octopus Nook launched at ETS 2026, the A15 is not bonded to a single UK energy supplier: you set it up against Octopus Go, Cosy Octopus, Intelligent Octopus Go or another smart tariff the way you would with a GivEnergy or Fox box.

The headline specs in context

The two numbers Hinen leaned on hardest at launch are the 12-year warranty and the 8,000-cycle rating. Both are at the top end of what UK households currently see on quotes.

Two things stand out. The A15 warranty length matches the Octopus Nook headline and is two years longer than most of the market. The 8,000-cycle rating is roughly a third higher than the 6,000 cycles that has settled in as the UK LFP standard. Both would look strong at the same install price.

Cycle life vs how UK households actually use a battery. A typical Octopus Go household clocks about 350 to 380 full equivalent cycles a year, per our read of DESNZ time-of-use data in the cycle life and warranty guide. Even a heavy Cosy Octopus plus EV household lands around 440 to 510 cycles a year, plus 20 to 40 from Virtual Power Plant and Free Electricity Sessions. Against those numbers, a 6,000-cycle limit already runs 12 to 17 years; the A15's 8,000-cycle rating is comfortably beyond a typical warranty period, and the practical limit becomes the inverter (5 to 10 year warranty, £600 to £1,500 to replace) rather than the cells.

How you actually buy one in the UK

The A15 is not sold direct. Hinen has confirmed that the A15 is being routed through its UK installer network, with a First 300 Installer incentive on the launch batch. In practical terms that means the buying route is the same as for any other installed UK battery:

  1. Find an MCS-certified installer who has taken on Hinen product. Ask on any quote.
  2. Get the installer to size the system (one B15 module for a typical 3-bed house, two for larger loads or an EV plus heat pump combo).
  3. Confirm the quote covers BS 7671 Amendment 4 (published 15 April 2026) and PAS 63100:2024. Both are now the baseline for lawful UK domestic battery installs.
  4. Confirm the installer will submit a G98 or G99 grid connection notice for the inverter to your Distribution Network Operator.
  5. Get the warranty document in writing, including who is underwriting the manufacturer warranty in the UK, not just who is offering it. This is the lesson the market took from the GivEnergy administration on 9 April 2026.

Because Hinen has not published a UK RRP, the price you pay depends on which installer you go to and how many modules you buy. Two anchor points help you sense-check a quote. UK LFP systems currently install at roughly £400 to £550 per usable kWh for the mid-market and up to £700 per kWh for badged premium brands (see our cost per kWh breakdown). At those rates, a single 14.4 kWh A15 module fully fitted lands somewhere between £5,500 and £7,500. That is a plausible sanity check, not a Hinen price commitment.

Where the A15 genuinely helps, and where it does not

Genuinely useful. Households that need a bigger single module (over 10 kWh usable) without the badged-brand premium. Homes with heat pumps and EVs where a 14.4 kWh module gives real headroom against combined evening peak. Installs where the wall space is tight, because the 180 mm slim depth beats most alternatives. Buyers who value a longer manufacturer warranty and a higher cycle rating, on paper.

Less useful. Buyers who want a battery installed in the next four to six weeks: a brand-new installer network takes time to bed in, and quoting depth will be uneven at first. Households at the smaller end of the market where 7 to 10 kWh usable is enough. Anyone who wants Octopus-native tariff integration without configuring it themselves (that is what the Nook Colossus is aimed at in 2027).

Watch out for. The warranty and cycle claims are only worth what the UK entity backing them is worth. Hinen is a global business, but its UK service footprint is being built out right now. Ask the installer who will replace a failed module in year six: the manufacturer, the installer, or an underwriter under the installer's Insurance-Backed Guarantee. If the answer is "the manufacturer, and you contact them directly", that is a weaker position than a UK-based installer who takes first-line ownership.

Does the A15 launch change the wait-or-buy maths?

No, for most UK households. The key deadlines are the same as they were before Hinen entered the market:

The HMRC VAT Notice 708/6 makes clear the 0% VAT rate on installation of energy-saving materials in Great Britain applies until 31 March 2027, then reverts (currently to 5%). Every quote issued from now sits inside that six-month window. The A15 does not shift that clock, and it does not automatically get you a UK install faster than the batteries already sitting in installer vans.

Reasonable order of operations for a household actively shopping today:

  1. Get a quote for a battery you can install this side of 31 March 2027. That is the real deadline.
  2. If your installer already carries Hinen, put the A15 on the comparison sheet alongside their other options.
  3. If they do not, do not delay the whole project waiting for an A15 quote to materialise. A battery installed in September or October 2026 on Octopus Go is worth roughly £70 to £80 a month you would otherwise not be saving.

The A15 launch is part of a pattern: Chinese residential storage brands (Hinen, Sigenergy, Growatt, Pylontech, Deye) tightening their UK footprint while UK-listed brands consolidate. Whether the A15 will land at a price that undercuts the best current UK installers depends on how aggressively the initial installer network prices it. The First 300 Installer incentive suggests the plan is to seed the market cheaply and grow from there.
